The Verifier · a control built on the layer
Two mechanical checks on every AI-generated citation. One human check, on request.
The Verifier checks case citations that KeepWise's own AI generates against CourtListener's case-law database — it doesn't scan every document in your matter, and it doesn't claim to check every citation that has ever existed in your files. It's scoped to what the AI writes.

Case existence
Does the cited case actually exist? Checked automatically, every time, against CourtListener's database of case law.
Quote match
If a passage is quoted, does that language actually appear in the opinion? This is the check that catches the most dangerous kind of error — a real case, cited for language it never contained.
Proposition support
Does the case actually support the point it's cited for? This is judgment, not a lookup — it never auto-clears. It's routed to an attorney at your own firm to confirm — KeepWise does not supply the reviewing attorney — and that confirmation is logged.
Timing
Why check as it's generated, not after
A checker you run by hand only works on the drafts where someone remembers to run it — under deadline, that step is the one that gets skipped. KeepWise runs case-existence and quote-match checks automatically, as part of generating the response, so the check can't be forgotten. Verification is computed before the response is released; the results appear inline, right after the text.
What the Verifier is not
- It doesn't tell you whether a case is still good law.
- It doesn't tell you whether it's the best authority for your argument.
- It doesn't check statutes, law-review articles, or citations like "id." and "supra".
- It doesn't review citations in documents you upload — only citations KeepWise's own AI generates.
Reviewing all AI-generated output remains the attorney's responsibility. See Disclaimers.
